Definitely a n00b question! How can I send only SOME of the signal of a synth track to a group track with a compressor, so I can hear both the compressed and original signal together? I read that this fattens up the sound if the compessor is right, but I can only hear the compressed sound.

Dont route the track into the group track, instead add the compressor onto a "SEND" track, and set the send knob to about 50% to only send a portion of the signal through.

You get the original track playing and also the send track playing this way. if you instead use routing, you only get 1.
