That's very generous of you dylab. On the subject of earthquakes, it does appear that the Indo-Pacific plates is breaking up as Northeast Japan has just been hit an hour ago by a massive 8.8 earthquake and tsunami.

Maybe the Mayans were right. It seems like the Pacific Rim is pulling itself apart.

According to the National Geographic California WILL break off and fall into the Pacific and the land east of the rift valley in Africa will also be lost to the sea. Wonder what will happen to the Indo-Pacific plates?

Man, those poor Japanese... the live footage of the tsunami rolling in and literally swamping entire cities was both awe-inspiring and terrifying at the same time. Now pretty much overshadowed by the problems with the nuclear reactors. :)

I know some of our grandparents still have stark memories of 'the war' and may never reconcile with the Japanese, but for me these re everyday civilians just like us, it could happen to any of us, and whether its the quake victims there and in NZ, or the flood victims in Australia (and Brazil and Argentina I think?), one wonders just how much more suffering 2011 is going to deliver?

At the moment I count my lucky stars I live in a country that sits on the middle of a geographical plate, not at edge of one... the 'rim of fire' is burning... :(

For our US friends I hope California and Hawaii don't suffer the same fate.

Well it's looking more like the Mayans were right with their predictions. I believe it's going to get very unpleasant for folks living by or on the Pacific Ocean.
