You know that phrase "the best thing since sliced bread" ? Well I think it what they were referring to was touchAble for iPad.

Since the release of the iPad there has been a swarm of various apps marked "work in progress" or "in development", with nothing more than a few shiny screenshots to show and some weak launch dates, that is until recently with the launch of touchAble.

touchAble seems to do everything the others were bragging about, plus more, the difference is, touchAble is out now, and for sale in the iTunes store.

Lets take a look at some of the features

Clip grid

[*]Navigate around the set using touches.
[*]Need to go faster? Use more fingers!
[*]Clips & scenes with full color and name feedback
[*]8x15 clips in fullscreen, 8x7 clips in halfscreen allow a great overview over your set
[*]Access to arm & solo functions
[*]Playing position feedback inside clips- Grid always stays in sync with the set you're controlling
[*]Stop Toggle provides a safe, yet easy way to stop tracks & clips.
[*]Famous colored box around currently shown clips within Live
Mixer

[*]Unlimited tracks, navigate with the touch-sensitive cross.
[*]Volumes, returns A-D, panning, monitors, resets, master & return volumes
[*]2 different modes in fullscreen: Mode 8 to control two different parameters for the same 8 tracks, Mode 16 to control 16 tracks at once.
[*]Scared of clipping? Output-meters provide feedback of each tracks/masters/returns output-levels.
      [*]Mute-buttons for each track
Devices

[*]Intuitive device selection screen using touch scrolling. Toggle mode to enable & disable devices from the overview.
[*]Compatible with vsts, audio-units and native live plugins
[*]Native Templates for few of Lives devices More will be added in the next updates.
[*]Choose between 3 device modes: Native Mode, FX8 with 8 and FX32 with 32 parameters to be controlled at once.
[*]Navigate and control unlimited parameters with bank switches
[*]Never lose a parameter in the heat of a set: parameter name & value feedback directly inside the faders.
        [*]FX8 & FX32: Different fader-colors differentiate continuous parameters and multistate-toggles.
[*]Control 2 devices at the same time
Keys

          [*]17 note Keyboard
          [*]Touch & scroll Octave-selector
[*]2 velocity modes: global or range
[*]Range velocity mode provides 5 velocity steps within the same key: Press the key on top for low velocity, press it on bottom for maximum velocity
[*]Keys change colour to reflect current level of velocity
[*]Tweak the minimal velocity during range mode with the provided slider
[*]Perform with 2 keyboards in full screen mode
Pads

            [*]8 or 16 pads mode
            [*]Touch & scroll Pad-selector
[*]2 velocity modes: global or range
[*]Range velocity mode with 5 different steps
[*]Pads change colour to reflect current level of velocity
Clip & Transport control

[*]Change parameters of clips : pitch, detune, loop, length, position
[*]Easy access to transport functions: play/stop, midi overdub, cue level, metronome, nudge up/down, midi record and launch quantization
Pretty damn impressive. The product is already being actively used by live performers and there has been loads of very interesting clips posted on YouTube showing people getting creative with touchAble.

For Ableton users and iPad owners this is looking to be the "must have" accessory, I personally own both and also have my copy of touchAble and I love it, even though im still figuring it out.

              Lets see some demo's

Dubspot have also posted some fantastic guides also, found here: http://blog.dubspot....hable-for-ipad/

That really looks awesome. I wonder if you can adjust the sensitivity of the virtual keypads? I sometimes find virtual keypads somewhat unresponsive.

They've already thought of that, the further up the key you hit it, the less sensitive it is.. hit it right down the bottom and its full 127

I love the sheer versatility of the i,Pad. Being able to change it into any instrument/ piece of studio gear, with the right app of course.

I just wish it had some kind of Blu-ray support. I seriously would be all over this if it did.

There will NEVER be Blu-ray support on any Apple product, Jobs is really pushing Digital downloads.

and rightly so I guess ... the whole physical media concept is fading out fast .. Bluray will most likely be the last ever form of physical media ... Nobody is going to rebuy all their movies again in ANOTHER format ..

Love the look of this!

I love the usability of the iPad. Does everything from letting me use a word processor, to surfing the net, to running Garageband!

I for one do not want bitrate starved downloads with Dolby Digital 5.1 at best. I want the best presentation possible. That is via physical media.

As a media player, I feel that the i,Pad is left wanting. No USB, no HDMI, not even a memory card reader wtf?

Will probably add at least some of these features in a future model. I would love for apple to put HDMI on all their gear TBH.

But what it does, it does so well. Hence the many imitations.
