If you haven't seen 'The Music Instinct - Science and Song' then I strongly suggest checking out the clips on this site:

Scroll through the pages for all sorts of interesting clips on the physics of sound, the evolution of music in mankind, music and the brain, music in early childhood development, music in therapy and so on. Made in 2009, it contains pretty recent research and theories.

Respected people like Oliver Sacks, David Rothenberg, Bobby McFerrin and YoYo Ma being interviewed and gving demonstrations. Well worth a look.
