the new mainstage and flex time will be interesting, obviously an attempt to cover more ableton territory. its bout time logic got some decent amp modelling as well.
i must say i was hoping for a fantastic new synth to be included, but i guess they already have a lot of bases covered there already.
thoughts?

"What's New"
http://www.apple.com...udio/whats-new/
Yeah, Flex Time does seem like an elegant way of pulling audio around without slicing, cutting and trimming. Video here:
http://www.apple.com...-new/#flex-time
And it does seem to be catering heavily to the guitar crowd, but hey, synths sound ever better through guitar effects, so that's a bonus.
Would like to hear what sorts of things "Warped Effects for Space Designer" can come up with too.
So is this update worthy of a new number (from 8 to 9)?
Maybe, maybe not?
Still, it's the best value in town and totally capable of just about anything.
Also great reading up how integral Logic is:

For example, Lily Allen's latest album is written and engineered within Logic, using pretty much just its standard instrument plug-ins (though many custom samples).

I think the new features in Mainstage 2 make this a winner - or at least attractive for some.
I recently committed to Cubase 5 but the new Mainstage 2 looks great and could be a worthy competitor to Ableton's Live for some people. It does stereo and will do stems/surround playback with on-the-fly arranging. Live doesn't do surround files but that won't bother most I imagine. It also has the Ableton Live-esque, sound-on-sound live-looping plug too. Nice.
Combine the significantly more useful version of Mainstage 2 with the other 'me too' additions (amp modelling & warp audio) in Logic and it looks like a great package.
It's a great time to be creating/performing music isn't it. These tools are just getting better and better.

Whaddya gonna do when we reach tomorrow, are you gonna change the thread name to 'yesterday', and then to 'not yesterday but the day before'. A bit misleading otherwise. Bet you didn't think of that. Huh! HUH! HUUUUHHHH!!!!!

LOL em
Looks good, but not $100 higher in price good. Doesn't seem like it's worth $300 for an upgrade from 8.
Flex Time will be great, though. Obviously they've been losing market share to warp-crazy Live users who otherwise would have stuck with Logic.
Only thing I ever used Mainstage for was practicing piano scales. Maybe it'll be a bit more useful now.

I'm most interested in flex time when mentioned as a feature to substitute the Vari-speed control on old tape machines. Has anyone used this effect yet to double-track vocals. I know it was a popular trick used on many 70's and 80's recordings. I'm wondering if this fact alone is worth the upgrade from version 8 too!
