Saw this pop up the other day on rs7000.org (forum is more or less dead these days, everyone just uses the shitty yahoo group, god knows why?)

my bad... i didnt post links... but yo, a few things work once u get certain pieces:

1: a 50pin scsi hard or solid state drive:

http://store.hardtape.com/soca.html

with the hard/solid tape, u need a scsi bay... thats the bad part:

http://store.hardtap...ts6500sc50.html

note: the NDisk is highly recommended at this site:
http://scsiforsamplers.com/

2: a custom midi cable (2ft long with AIEB board... 1.5ft without... internal female to external male 50pin scsi:

http://www.cs-electr...-pin-cables.htm

a Molex connector for internal power... the same thats used on the AIEB board... i dont know the Model number, but i cut the one on my board and used that one... once i find out the EXACT plug it is, i'll buy a new one... dont need it rite now though:
http://www.molex.com

thats it... other little things i used:

power drill
a handsaw for cutting metal
burr set, or grinding point
rubber grommets
shrink tubing
rubber feet
14-1/2" Indoor/Outdoor Nylon Wire Ties

note: the handsaw, drill, burr and grinding point is ONLY used if u have the AIEB board installed and do not wish to take it out.

thats it! and when i say it works, its no lie... im using the 8gb Solid Tape drive and a sample that took 9 secs to load off a SM card only takes 2 with the drive... i also purchased the NDisk from scsiforsamplers, and that drive is VERY quiet and HIGHLY durable... ive left both on for weeks at a time, and i must say, the Solid State solidtape gets warmer than the NDisk... the only time the NDisk got warm was when i physically formatted it, which takes FOREVER... if u do it, do it once, but u prolly dont ever need to do it... i was just putting them thru a few tests... also, they both switch from "card" to "scsi" with ZERO lagtime... CF cards take forever depending on the size of the card... 8gb CF cards take at least 40secs to 1minute to switch over. i also found out that the RS can read up to 36gb... but im fine with 8 rite now.

its also set up to power up simultaneously with the RS, since its using the RS' own power... again, no probs.

oh yea... the NDisk is from Adtron... the guys that deal with the industrial side of things... so im very confident that i shouldnt have any probs with the drive... the same goes for Hardtape.com.

anymore questions... ask me... ive been kinda lazy, couldve posted vids already... sorry.

da relic

Anyway, it has got me very interested to try an internal SSD mod on my old rs7000. Sure beats having an external scsi compact flash reader anyway. Very interesting to know that the RS can read up to 36gig via the scsi interface though.

The basic premise is using modern IDE solid state drives with an IDE to SCSI bridge, scsiforsamplers.com are stocking a few different items and kits that are working with most older kit that provides a scsi interface.

So well worth checking out for those still using the old S3000XLs / S6000s, A3000 / A4000 / A5000s or to provide a bit of a speed upgrade to the old RS7000 or MPC2000XL.

Thanks for posting that link, I didn't know about that site, so awesome.
CF card readers were like holy grails for the MPC3K about 2 years ago.

I think this will be the biggest win for old samplers!
If only it was cheap...

I got an n-disk for my E64 the other week (and a PCD47b for my mpc)

the 9G n-disk is not solid state storage, it's a 40G laptop HDD on a SCSI/IDE bridge that seems to only translate 9G of address space.

but yeah - it's quiet and fits really well inside my E64, and gives me a great amount of sample storage space.

their solid state version of the n-disk is THIS
http://scsiforsamplers.com/ssd.asp
(basically the same adapter and cage as the n-disk, but with a non-hot swappable IDE/CF adapter inside with a CF card, instead of a hard drive... and a fair bit more $$)

I'm actualy very tempted to grab myself an 8G CF card, and a laptop ide/CF converter ($2 on ebay! woo!) and turn my n-disk in the E64 into an SSD drive, then put its 40G laptop IDE drive into my A5000. (except I hear the A5k will only use a max of 8G, but more importantly can only work with a maximum 20G drive size on an internal hdd... and so my 40G might not work at all with it... damn...)
