So, i know there's a shed load of MD users floating about here... lurking in the filthyness of owning an MD, and i thought i'd start a thread so that we could share tips.

In fact, even more selfish than that, i thought i'd start a thread so that i can steal some of your tricks  :eatadick:

What we should already know as MD users:

1. Hitting play and record at the same time allows you to belt out loops and record them real time
2. The global settings are your best friend whe you want to set the beasty up for either sequenced or live in different configs
3. You can entirely slave all of the sounds, or sync the MD up via midi clock to you main sequencer. You can also use it as the master sequence/time source
4. Most of the presets are crap.
5. Retrig (RTRG) is echo gone horribly wrong :D

What i learnt today:
You can easily setup patterns to trigger off a midi note. So, now i have Cubase as my master midi time source and can build my petterns using the MD sequencer, but 'play' them back from Cubase and actually get some progression in my tracks.  ::) You do this in the global area... which mean i know have a global for when i'm just playing with the MD, and one for the current mess... i mean tune... i'm working on. I find that splediferously excellentation. I can use the pattern sequencer in the MD to write loops moving away from the Cubase midi map... or i can switch to another global setting and use the drum patter editor in cubase to access the sounds... or another global for just MD... or one for MD as master  :wtf:

What pearls of wisdom can i steal from you other users?

^That's awesome!! Cheers. Quite a few things on there i didn't know you could do!!

I've just made the discovery that over midi, the MD is a little picky about midi time code.  :'( Everything else in my studio says 124BPM just like Cubase... but the damn MD wanders between 123.2 and 125.4. Makes from some annoying sync issues. It seems to play much happier when i quickly config Cubase to use the MD as the midi time source... and i'm back to having proper sync again  8)

No worries, i think someone actuall posted it here a while back??

Fun trick - get a tom and make the decay long and the pitch low. Put LFO on the filter for some really trippy dubstep sounds.

I only discovered yesterday by accident that you can chain multiple patterns together by holding more than one pattern down and pressing another, you can keep holding and pressing and they chain in the order you press them. I wish it was a press press rather than an old press so you could chain one pattern more than one time in a row. but that is what song mode is for I guess.
