hey guys

Im using logic 8.

I have been having trouble with midi note to score!

I have read the manual and seen a video.

I do all the steps that are suggested in the sequence to get it to work

then all the notes are put to a synth track. all good so far.

when i look at the midi notes on the piano roll they are all over the place. They are all on the correct position but not on the right note. If you know what i mean. It means for me to replace a drum sound for example i have to go and place all the notes on one line like c1 (very tedious)

Its like the midi to score is picking up notes rather than just transients.

what have I done wrong?  :D

also in strip silence when i go to merge the regions back together it always reverts back to what it was before stripping. any ideas?

It's been a while since I used it but there should be templates in the score preferences to map GM drum notes to the correct lines on the staff for kit/percussion notation, which is quite different from pitched instruments and uses different noteheads.

It sounds like the notes are being literally mapped to their actual pitch position as if it was a piano, hence the notes look all over the shop.

Either do as you suggested and manually transpose each drum hit to the right note for the staff, or look for a drum kit score template. From memory the score window has a submenu that lists prefs for custom mapping. Also from memory I recall manually dragging the drum notes to position took less time than stuffing around with templates :D

If you use non-GM drum mapping then you'll need to go manual, or create your custom MIDI to Score template.

Someone else may have the direct menu items at hand, hope it helps anyway.

Thats the way to do it.

What you can do is create the entire drum track one at a time and cut and paste the notes onto the same midi track. What i also suggest is when you have all the channels is to highlight them all by selecting the keyboard key and then use the velocity tool to raise them all up together while still keeping the changings of the velocitys. It's kind of like normalizing the midi notes.
