Hello,

I've had a Roland XP-30 keyboard for a few years, and a couple of days ago it stopped sending MIDI. Now, I tested everything possible to try and isolate the problem, to no avail. I tested the MIDI cables on another device, which worked fine, and I turned on Active Sensing on the XP-30 to see if that was sending a MIDI signal, and it was. My next instinct was to check all of the settings, even though I hadn't altered any of them, and they all looked identical to how I had them. In case it was some kind of bug or corrupt file or something, I restored the factory defaults, but to no avail. I made sure the Computer switch on the back was set to MIDI, even though that shouldn't matter, but nothing. So, I opened it up. Inside, nothing looked loose or damaged, but there was a bit of dust around, so I cleaned that out. I double-checked connections, but didn't see anything. Mind you, I didn't look underneath the output board because of the hassle involved in taking it out. I put it back together and sure enough, still no MIDI from keys or pitch / mod, but still able to send active sensing messages.

Does anyone happen to know much about this kind of thing? I know it's a bit of a shot in the dark, since it's a pretty specific problem, but I'd very much so appreciate it. I can't really afford repairs or a new keyboard at this point.

After a bit more tinkering, I finally got it working. Ironic that I spent an hour and a half going through everything possible and only minutes after posting this I fixed it. One of the connecters on the inside had come loose, but only on one side, so it was barely noticeable. Sorry for the unnecessary post!

Ain't the troubleshooting journey so much fun.... not!! Glad to hear it was something simple/cheap to fix.

Sounds like you have a dry joint. Would suggest you re-touch the solder on the midi sockets of the synth to prevent it occurring again any time soon.

Thank you for the responses. I'll look into re-soldering the connections, Jester_Fu. Thanks for the tip.
