This may need to get bumped to the noob section but nevertheless it's giving me shits....

I've gotten the overall latency to 7.5 seconds by lowering the buffer rate to something to like 180 samples. When im trying to lay something down with my with my keyboard or guitar the latency is still putting it out of time. I'm trying to get the device error compenation thing to work but ain't working for me. has anyone else had the same problem.... or is there other ways to approach the problem im having?

Sorry, I'm no Ableton guru, but thinking it may help to post what computer operating system and what soundcard/audio interface you are using.

if you look through the tutorials ( ableton library/lessons/3-hardware setup category/2-driver error compensation) that come with ableton it shows you you how to set up the driver error compensation ...  it just allows for input/output latency when recording it's not O/S or soundcard specific ..

if you cant find your library look in ableton preferences in the files and folders tab it will tell you where the library is installed

I’ve experienced drop outs with other software programs when I’ve tried to keep the buffer size low and have been trying to record with effects from a friend's modelling processor. Maybe try dropping down to 16 bit, or buy an external ASIO card that would be able to keep up if recording if heaps of effects is your thing.

If its a USB connection, it may not be able to transfer the data fast enough. You can enable zero latency monitoring if ur using USB, but it effectively routes the input signal to the output of the soundcard. So in that case, u wont be able to use effects during recording anyway.

Or get a Pro Tools TDM rig. It's only 30 grand. That's only the price of a coffee a day for the next 30 years. :-
