Cheers WF, a nice easy read I did a couple of things immediately, esp reminded to just go turn off unused settings and utilities to crank a bit more out of your CPU and free up RAM  :)

For Macs, while there ain't too much to tweak (maybe a good or a bad thing?), I can vouch for their suggestion to switch WiFi (AirPort) Off. I find it can make the difference between a Pro Tools bounce (render) or not.

And they also suggest switching off BlueTooth, which is main reason I've held off getting a Bluetooth mouse or remote keyboard for the laptop.

^^^ Fair call. I wrote more tunes when all I had was an MC-505.

Didn't sound as good though. :)

another latency question - does bus powering your audio interface affect latency? what about having multiple USB/firewire inputs bus powered? am i safer to use the power supplys on everything?

i have a gig coming up and i'm really worried about this because i'm occasionally getting latency on vocals which completely stuffs me up!

I'm not sure about latency but if I only use USB bus power for my MIDI keyboard it will stop responding/sending after a while but not if I have the power supply attached.

Interesting question - dunno if I have the answer tho - my only recent experince has been with firewire and I can't detect a difference running with or without the PSU.

However for general reliability I'd go with power supplies for the USB gear at gigs so every unit runs at full voltage/current.

thanks RB. i think as long as your actual laptop is plugged in to external power there shouldn't be a massive issue.

i was actually going to buy a power supply for my firebox if it was going to make a difference, but the presonus distributor in Australia quoted me $150, what a farce. i'll have to try dick smith...
