An alternative to the DS-10 :-

Quote

RHYTHM is a single player game where the user organizes sounds into rhythmic and melodic patterns, and then organizes the patterns into complete, exportable songs. Up to 16 sounds can be simultaneously sequenced with a precise degree of control in up to 64 patterns. These patterns can then be arranged into a song which can consist of up to 999 song steps. The user can then export the completed song as CD quality PCM wave files.

The program has a  built-in  bass synth, not sure of it quality compared to the DS-10 though. Parameters that control the synth include; PITCH, VOLUME, CUTOFF, RESONANCE, ENVELOPE MOD, DECAY and ACCENT.
You can expand your selection of in built samples from the website, which offers a large selection of sample bundles. You can also install your own samples.
The samples can be altered with; NOTE, VOLUME, BALANCE, START, END, CUTOFF, RESONANCE, ATTACK, DECAY, KEY and pitch ADJUST.
The program comes with in-built effects which include; DISTORTION, SLICER, TIME STRETCH and HI/LOW PASS FILTER.
You can export MIDI files, but I'm not sure about importing.

Cool sinik_of_sin_inc, this looks great. Do you own a copy? Is it easy to use? I'm really impressed that you can now write full tunes while on the train etc. I'm going to have to check it out! :cans:

I've got a copy, but haven't had a chance to really use it yet.
I'll post up when I've had a good mess about.

Ah cool thanks for that. The demo was a bit wanky but it still looked like it had some really awesome features and sounds.
