i was actually going to make a comment about that - the micron actually does an amazing job at emulating the analogue sound, although it doesn't quite have the same richness. the biggest difference i could pick (and i'm far from an expert) was opening the filter cutoff - the mopho's cutoff just seems to open wider and it has a grittier texture.
once i use the mopho a bit more i'll try to make more comment on it, but i'm sure you'll be happy with the ion - i love my micron, especially since i got hold of a great osx editor for it..

Hey wisefox, where did you buy yours from? Did you have to pay any duty to get it through customs? I know it cost me $100 or so to get my MPC through, but I think that was because it cost over a certain amount (can't remember the threshold).
Does anyone know if there are any aussie retailers stocking this?

i got it from analogue haven and nope, no customs hassles at all. i order quite a lot of stuff online and i've never had customs issues (mind you i haven't ordered anything over 1k).
personally i haven't seen them pop up locally yet, i think i bought at the right time - before our $ went down the toilet...

^^^ Yeah lucky bastard
Yeah I think my mpc was a little over 1k, hence the customs hassle.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Anything to say about it now you've played with it for a while? The only bad thing i've heard is you've gotta turn the infinite encoders lots to get to their extremes of value. Seems strange for such an apparently well designed instrument, you should be able to adjust their resolution.
Is it possible to program from scratch without the software editor? (the editor does look really well set out though) I'd like to be able to make programs out and about.
What did you pay for it including postage? (just to make me weep).
Sounddevices, turramurra and music lab all have it listed for $650.... damn not as cheap as I hoped!

yeah i'm still loving it, but minor complaints - indeed the encoders - depending on the speed you turn it, if your turning slow it can take you 6 full cycles to go from 0 to 164, a bit clunky.
the editing software is a buggy piece of crap at the moment, it crashes every single time i go to save a patch, hopefully they release an update soon as i've only been editing on the unit.
which brings me to editing on the unit - yes, entirely possible and coming from the micron its something i'm getting used to. i've only been editing on the unit due to the dodgy software and i've created some cool stuff, but often i'll just find an existing patch i like and tweak it until it sounds how i want.
to tell you the truth, playing with the mopho just highlights to me how awesome the evolver must be (with the added digital oscillators), so i'm starting to think maybe the desktop evolver might have been a better choice for $100 more. having said that, the added complexity of the evolver might be a bit too much to make it as enjoyable as the mopho (for me at least), so i'm not compaining.
mine came to about 510 AUD including shipping, as the dollar was still up around 82c i think. so 650 isn't too bad...
