Bit of a newbie question but...

I bought a cheap condenser from the states (studio projects B1)...

Plugged it into my firebox, enabled phantom power, channel, etc...

nothing...  :wtf:

Now I only use the firebox with bus power (bought from the US as well so no local adapter) - does the interface need to be plugged into the wall to be able to supply phantom power? or is the mic just f%*ked?

Clearly I've previously only used my SM57 & 58 as my sole mics.

You need to test the mic on another preamp with phatom. Do you or a friend have a little mixer or the like you can try with?

Don't have any mates who are into production unfortunately.

Was about to sell my firebox and upgrade to the new ultralite, so I might have to wait until I do that then re-test it...

thought that might be the case - thanks CT!

yeah i did my homework, it was either that or the NT1-A - but I read a few reviews that made me think the B1 would be better on vocals like mine...

I just sold a B1 to a guy in Sydney making great space disco tunes. Have to say i wasnt using it a great deal, so its in better hands. I was pretty impressed by it! Used it more than the NT3 i have. But, the NT3 has a 9v battery so you could sidestep phantom power issues. Not sure about it being better than the NT1A! Anyone used both on the same project? Interesting!
