What on earth are those hippies up to in that pic?

And why on earth are they appearing on an Express Card box?

Marketing is a mysterious art, huh?

The Ultralite. Wow.

Asus M6R number one: This unit was the main sequencer for the band for gigs and of course the Ultralite wouldnt install properly. The bandmate fiddled for days until he reads some forum which inspires him to run some app to roll back certain drivers in XP's Service Pack 2 and buys a PCMCIA Firewire interface. Seems to work fine. Eventually. No problems since.

Asus M6R number two: This unit was the main songwriting platform in the studio and used live as sampler and soft synth machine, to take the load off of the other one. The second Ultralite was simply DOA. It gets sent back to the distributor who informs that it needs to go to the USA for repair. A brand new unit comes back after about 2.5 months. Attempting to install it provided the usual "WTF" moments of any PC notebook using Ultralite owner. I try the same model PCMCIA Firewire card as my bandmate but it just crashes the notebook. Eventually i wipe all the drivers to start again and thik stuff it, use the 4-pin and a power supply instead. It eventually works, but of course the 4-pin likes to fall out all by itself and needs to be held in with gaffa tape. Not exactly gig friendly. The X-Station remains the main interface for gigs and the studio.

Then comes a new monster DAW! I cringe at the idea of installing the Motu again but try it anyway and... perfect the first time. No issues since. It seems to love the Gigabyte p45 motherboard of the tower, and dislike the Asus M6T notebooks in general. Lesson learnt! I'll keep using the X-Station for live shows but the Ultralite finally working as it should is a nice relief.
