Hey,
I recently purchased a Roland V-synth GT (a beast of a synth) :cans: and I need to route it out to Ableton.
I have the MIDI drivers installed. The V-Synth is connected to the computer using USB (which transmits Audio and MIDI).
Now, I don't want to record the audio output (using quarter inch cables). Is there anyway I can record the sound straight to a MIDI track? Or have some MIDI pattern, which triggers off the sound from the synth? (eg. Use a lead sound and draw an arp pattern as a clip in live).
The synth shows up in the audio input output section. Can't I use my sound card? :wtf: V-Synth doesn't come with any VSTi options, to open it as a plugin.
If anyone has any idea on setting up synths, do help! :bang:

Ok i think your a little confused .... plug the outs of the v synth to the inputs of your soundcard select your soundcard as your interface in live preferences... open a audio channel and click the monitor in button and that will be the audio channel and it will playback through your soundcard outputs .. from the audio from drop down select ext in and then select the inputs into which you plugged the synth .. voila audio sorted ...
in your live preferences under midi/sync make sure the relevant inputs and outputs are enabled if you want to use knobs select the remote button aswell....
in a live midi clip select the v synth from the "midi to" drop down box, click the monitor in button in the i/o panel of the channel strip .. and play from a midi keyboard to play sounds from the v station or click the auto button and draw in some notes to hear it ...

Well, I am definitely confused ;D but what you just explained is exactly what I wanted to avoid. Recording audio through the soundcard as any external instrument would be recorded.
Lets try one more time,
I want to be able to arpeggiate the Synth on a MIDI track. I know I can draw a pattern in a MIDI clip. But no sound
Infact the MIDI channel is empty. MIDI in and out don't show my synth.
Okay now im truly confused :wtf:
EDIT: I figured it out. Works flawlessly with MIDI patterns (clips) :cans:

Yeah well its a lesson for me :bang:
ALWAYS read the manual before embarking on your new synthology. I needed to connect the sound generator to the USB line :
I is Bonehead.

you don't have to record it, your just monitoring through your soundcard... since you don't have an external mixer you use your soundcards inputs as a mixer channel to allow you to listen to hardware synths ...
