Chopping up Samples

3 posts in this topic

G'day Guys,

quick question re cutting up percussion samples. I've got a PC [work] laptop with audacity on it, no external soundcard connected, can i chop bits out of a wav and save them individually without losing sound qual or should i be doing this on the mbp with the motu on?

cheers,

Ben

nah, do it all in the box - it renders the wave file internally

it'd be a different story if you were recording the samples

Yeah Audacity will be fine, just remember to 'Export WAV file' not simply 'save as...' - Saving is for the audacity project, not the wav itself ;)

From the time I've spent on it the cut and paste tools are really clunky but for cropping and trimming it does the job. If you don't want to accidentally delete samples (I have  :-[ ) I'd copy the bits you want from the raw audio, paste to a new track, select the pasted audio solo'ed and export... (assuming you didn't know already  :) )
