nah there's not really special "kick" effects as such as far as i am aware (apart from transient designer stuff?)

any old effects unit will do the job. best to stick the effects on a send and cut the bass out of the return channel as heavy bass reverb = woolly bottom :)

what you'd be after is prolly a good multi-channel multi-fx like a quad4, sound on sound review hyar: http://www.soundonso...s/quad4.854.htm

has a compressor which is the most handy kick "effect" you'll find. lexicon mpx are supposedly good too.

i had a behringer multifx once. it a sploded ;D

Tape saturation? It's cheap, and pretty easy to do.

Run the kick fairly loud into a cassette deck, you'll hear some nice compression/natural distortion if you crank it, and some nice analog warmth, you just need to get the volumes right.

Cool idea. How noisy is it, though? I guess it depends on the tape and tape machine.

Yeh, play around with different tapes and settings on the deck.

Nothing quite sounds like a saturated 808 kick....

Maybe get an old 3-head tape deck, and give it a shot.  I posted an artical in the "tape theory" thread.
