Hey i was wondering if some of you gurus could help me out on this one
im still a little fresh on the OSX debugging and am hoping there is a quick fix cos Ableton is not allowing me to set the Library Folder Path.

Here is how i got to this problem

I was installing some freeware vsts onto my system
after i loaded a  bunch of these instruments  Ableton wouldnt boot
i followed instructions from Ableton forums to delete my preferences.cfg file and then reboot the program
i did this (and removed the freeware vsts) however now as i am re-establishing my preferences, Ableton wont allow me to set my Library path. When i click on  both of my libraries it says that i dont have write perrmission  for these directories.
I am most definately the admin on my laptop.

I cant find any answers (waiting for reply from Ableton support, but i wanna write tunes this weekend
I have repaired permissions in disc utility
and also checked the folders read/write permission and they seem fine


it is a dilemma 

any ideas?

btw specs are Ableton 7 & OSX 10.48

Sounds like one of the VSTs is crashing Live on boot yeah? take each one out of the VST folder one by one to see which is the problem one...
weird about the Library thing tho. it is indeed a dilemma. i'll be writin choons in the morning so i'll poke around in the Abletron prefs.

i do that on a weekly basis anyway
the actual problem was i assumed when i deleted my preferences.cfg file that setting the library folder meant choosing one of the libraries in OSX when it wasnt. Ableton just wanted a home directory. A bit confusing but thanks to rich it is sorted .
I chose to put it on my brand spanking new firewire Terrabyte external  HD
love the name terrabyte
and since then im just making mean music
hehe
