im trying to a variety of midi data from live and back into live
what i have is live and a korg er1 and korg ea1
both korgs are set to external clock
current set up
live>midi out> korg er1 midi in >korg er1 midi thru > korg ea1 midi in > korg ea1 midi out > live midi in

this lets live start up both korgs in synch and i can get soft sythns in live be run from the korg ea1

my question is how do i get the midi data from both korgs into live
when i swap the setups live only seems able to synch one of the korgs or gets data from one of the korgs

cheers

MIDI Thru doesn't transmit the data being sent from an individual device, instead it is a straight pass through of what's coming in - ie, clock. to get data from 2 MIDI OUTs into your computer it's a case of either having 2 independent MIDI INs on your computer's interface or scoring a MIDI merge box which will allow you to connect 2 INs and will spit out 1 OUT.

^^^ I think you may have misunderstood Ehsan's explanation. All's good, it can be headache to get one's head around at first. :D

If you only have a single MIDI Input on your computer then you can only have the output of a single Korg plugged into it.

eg. Korg ER1 Out --> PC In

To reiterate what Ehsan said, to get your Korg EA1 sending MIDI into your PC, you'll either need:
- a MIDI interface with more inputs, or
- a MIDI merge box to combine the two Korg outputs into a single feed into the PC.

In summary,

For Live to play your Korgs:
- PC Out --> Korg ER1 In
- Korg ER1 Thru --> Korg EA1 In

For your Korgs to play into Live:
- Korg ER1 Out --> PC In #1
- Korg EA1 Out --> PC In #2

(Or via the merge box to combine the two Korg outputs into a single feed into the PC.)
