Hey guys, i'm a noob and proud!  :D
I have Ableton 6 on a Laptop (Laptop not the best but manages) and a midi keyboard controller (Edirol PCR-M50).  I also have a semi acoustic guitar.  I would like to somehow be able to record my guitar playing into ableton but haven't got a scooby what extra hardware i need and how to do it.  Can anyone help point me in the right direction?
Cheers

What you need is an audio interface.
I have a short guide to home recording on my site you might find helpful.

One little thing to stress, included in audiogeek's great article, is the importance of a Hi-Z or Hi-impedance input for you so you can plug the semi-acoustic straight in without an extra preamp or DI box. Most of the decent interfaces have it now, either dedicated or a shared 'line' input with a switch.

Although if it's a high quality solid timber guitar you might want to aid the tone by investing in a dedicated guitar preamp to go between the guitar and the interface. But for a cheap Yamaha or other plywood guitar, the built-in pre in an interface will still be clean and pretty neutral sounding.

Here's a good link to 25 acoustic preamps, with links to manufacturers and user reviews:

I havnt read AGZ's article , but Iv been recording guitar with Live and Cubase for years, and your probably most important aspect will be a zero latency sound card.  Even the most slightest latency will make it almost impossible to play properly.

Also whenever you get a bit better and more accomplished , you definately want to check out Native Instruments Guitar Rig ..  Iv basically retired all my foot pedals and effects stomp boxes and now completely use Guitar rig.
