Casio’s Latest Gadget Makes Printing CD Labels Easier

Posted Image

" This little device will use a thermal transfer ribbon to print the label onto your disc. The Title Printer comes with simple software to design your labels. You can choose from 8 different colored ribbons for your prints. The printer will set you back $60. "

I thought some of the CD-DJ's here would find this gadget rather cool, not mention time-saving  :cans:

thoughts ?

only 40 prints per cartridge (and printing label title on the top and contents on bottom would count as 2)
printer's cheap but, like the kodak thermal photo printers (of which I've fixed a few) the carts are expensive and unreusable.

i like my canon ip4200, does nice prints

anyone got a lightscribe? they look pretty cheap
and you can get colour coded cd's!

yeah, I get those Verbatims, $25 is better than I get em for tho.
I have seen the CD-Rs at Officeworks too, on one of my large scale hunts for discs.

Seriously is a ink jet printer with CD print capability that much more inconvenient???

Unless that Casio thing is like $40 and the tape refills are less than $10 i dont see it lighting fires in anyones loins.

I paid less than $150 for a canon multifunction that prints on CD's and does awesome photo prints as well as scanning and copying. That was nearly 2 years ago and they have come down a whole lot since then.

The lightscribe idea is a cool one but like Decon suggests, media is a bit thin on the ground. Saying that though, my local JB HIFI has the media and i can pick up a lightscribe drive rather cheaply so i might give it a go in the new year.

Edit: i just saw that it will cost $60. I still think its rather gimmicky though. Especially when a half decent multifunction will print CD's

Gotta agree here ...    I bought a full photo printer that handle's CD's for $200 ..  it does complete photo print onto blank CD tops , and this is about all i use it for..  I dont just print labels onto my CD's , i print entire photos and artwork , professional looking cd's  ...  Most CD's now are ink jet printable for this reason..

This thing would only really be good for portable use , stash it away if your on the road and print out some CD's ...  other than that an average printer would be of more use .

I meant using it more for a personal cd wallet when djing rather that for pretty promo cds, sure beats hand scribbled messages

only cd label printing i have done is on the sticky labels that you transfer on to the back of any CD. a bit more time consuming but i have found that from the hundreds of CDs that i have had rolling around in my CD wallet, the only ones to survive have been the ones with the labels on the backs.

an extra layer protecting the back make the average CD last a whole lot longer. most players can get around scratches on the underside of CDs but as soon as the foil is scratched you might as well throw it out.

wouldn't mind finding something like this that works well, i find using the inkjet great for the fancy promo labels but a huge pain in the ass for knocking out a few different compilations quickly

I take it back the unit is ok you just have to pick the right cds to print on and you dont get that many prints out of one ribbon but if anyone would like i can post a couple of picks so you can see what its like before you get one.

Keep rocking Will
