Sweet!

Thought about getting one of those a while back but havn't yet. Howd you find the build, easy/hard? Sounds nice, I've heard a similar build in the flesh and was impressed. I'm a fan of the lo freq square waves, if they get that right I'm sold  ;)

Lets see em write a VST that can sing like that!  ;D

cheers guys,
it was the biggest kit i've built so far and there are definitely a lot of components.

but as long as you triple check you've got the right bits in the right slots and your soldering's ok you should be sweet (or you can pay a bit extra and get the whole thing built for ya)

it was a perfect kit to learn more about the stages of an analog synth and sequencer
+ the online build manual and forums are great.  I just read as much as I could and then kinda dove in.

just tested the cv in with the variable voltage test tool I made and it works cool too
yay 8)

I also made the wsg from a breadboard design on here (the Andrew Sharp one)
http://www.musicfrom...IRST_SYNTH.html
doing the whole breadboard process and buying all the right bits was much harder than the x0xb0x kit but was a really good warm up.  the jaycar/dick smith sound kits were a good warm up too...

and I'm totally addicted now

Wow! So USD$330 gets you the components, enclosure, and silk-screen panel too. That's fantastic. ;)

I see it's got USB plus MIDI. So what does the USB allow you to do via the computer?

Love to hear it cranked through an overdrive pedal and a delay, eh? ;)

USB is there to upload/download/modify patterns, and to bootload firmware.

But it's got issues. it's a serial port over USB implementation, and well, lots of people have problems with both the drivers for the computer, and the app that's written to use it.

They would have been better off implementing a standard serial port for PC connection, IMO.

yeah I still gotta get the usb up and running.
The software needs the x0xb0x to be in one of the first four COM ports and they're all taken up...
looks cool tho being able to program all the patterns with it and read and write them to the b0x

hey everyone. the x0xb0x project is nearing its end...its become very very difficult to source parts. nearly impossible in fact.
i'm also becoming more interested in projects that are less stressful/difficult/frustrating than the x0xb0x
so its not clear how many kits will be made and when.
but thats why we open sourced it! you can make PCBs (or buy them from the shop) and buy all the parts yourself.
it'll cost as much (or less) than buying a x0x
and ill get less angry email ;)
hope you understand...
thx!
      limor

ps. we'll continue to have pcbs, panels, etc in the shop. just not full kits

I know. Now that they're not selling the kits anymore, I reckon they'll go up even more as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they start costing more than a TB303 soon. They're way rarer!

^^^
that sucks - especially to all the people that have been on the waiting list for over a year :)

btw anyone tried any of the other firmware's for the x0xb0x?
the SokkOS looks like it has heaps of good features like swing, copy, pattern nudge etc.

Once again I've been lucky in my search for a 303.  I don't mean to boast, I'm just really happy!

Picked one up from Pete's in Sydney for 1k, excellent condition, and fully serviced! So I've spent less than 2k for an 808 and 303 both in tip top shape, in the last few months.

i should buy a lotto ticket!  one thing I've learnt recently is that it pays to put up wanted threads on music forums, I've been really lucky twice now.  Avoid ebay like the plague if we want to get a deal.  Thanks to no-fi for going out of his way to test it out for me!

:)
