The Lobster Quadrille Tutorial

just mentioned having a crack at this nutter Granular software by Akira Rabelias called Argephontes Lyre

It is a suite of stand-alone synthesizers and processors that has to be seen to be believed.

Akira uses really unconventional terms to label the functions in his apps, very poetic and artistic but in return really hard to figure out what is going on. Most apps run off-line processing so you just have to import a file, slide some sliders called really obscure names, export it as AIFF and play it in a media player. Some would say it's a dog, others would say its very Zen and arty - a real exploration into the unknown so to speak.

There is one good granular synth called the Lobster Quadrille, which allows you to preview the sounds in real-time before exporting. It slices an imported WAV or AIF into chunks of user-defined or renadom lengths and then proceeds to mangle it in all sorts of ways. I have spent enough time on it to crack the code (to a point) and write a little manual that translates into plain English. Once explained it's actually quite fun and easy to make some amazing sounds.

Main limitation is you must run OS10.3 or higher. It seems to run best on power PC G4/G5 but may work on Intel. It hasn't been updated since it was written.

Here ya go Spectrum, hope it helps you get started:

Brilliant! :P

So far it loads up on Intel, yet to give it a whirl though.

Let me drop a tab of acid, crank this thing up, and get back to you. :P
