And - if you had $2500 to spend on a card, what would you get, and why?

$2500? I'd buy 3 Motu Ultralites to stick with the 828MkII. Why? 'cause then i'd have enough IO to set the tape in/outs on the desk up, and have Jesters analogue digital wank festival  :cans:

Mah. I'd probably just buy another motu 828 and get that Balck Lion A/D mod done to it from the US. Then i could A-B with the existing 828 and decide if i'd wasted my money ;D With the change, i'd buy a couple of focusrite pre's and set me up a nice little mobile recording rig.

Because Sweetwater (who I used as 'inspiration' for the expanding the list) doesn't sell it?! ;D

And I agree. A friend uses the Echo Indigo PCMCIA card in his laptop. Very convenient piece of kit.

Creamware Luna II for me.. an oldie but a goodie. only two ins/outs, onboard dsp (which i never use, too much faffing about) but it's got a pretty good sound and low latency.

maybe one of the TC works boxes  or apogee or RME 800s
