* The enhanced audio engine improves fidelity with 64-bit mix summing, POW-r dithering, optimized sample-rate conversion and other advances.
* The new compressor device integrates three compression models, one of which is based on a feedback design commonly found in the most praised vintage compressors.
* Fully integrated side-chaining capability is available for the new Compressor as well as Gate and Auto Filter.
* High-Quality modes have been added to Operator, Dynamic Tube and Saturator for anti-aliased processing, reducing typical "digital" artifacts.
* EQ Eight has an improved user interface and a 64 bit mode for increased accuracy.
* The new Spectrum analyzer provides visual feedback for any audio signals within Live (and it looks really cool!).
* The MIDI engine has been reworked to minimize timing error (jitter) of recorded MIDI.
* Hardware integration has been streamlined—hardware synthesizers and effects can now be inserted into device chains just like software plug-ins.
* New memory management technology allows users of large sample libraries, such as Ableton's new sampled instruments or third-party libraries imported via Sampler, to run an impressive number of instruments at the same time. This happens automatically, with no setup changes required.
* New Audio and MIDI fact sheets explain exactly how signals are (or are not) being modified when using specific features in Live and provide tips for achieving the highest quality results.

DRUM RACKS = PWN

...The rest is no big deal IMO.

Finally Live can put sidecow into the bellchain! I'm probably still gonna dump it and go back to Logic, though.

new compressors and sidechain, analyser, and the new analog instruments look interesting.
nothing you can't do using 3rd party plug-ins, guess they're trying to make it more all-in-one...
the vid on the new drum racks shows off some pretty nice features.

Looking at the drum racks it seems to have a massive bank of slots you can load clips, vsts and rexfiles into.  seems like it's perfect for a mpd/trigger finger/padkontrol/ (menome!)
16*8 == 128 slots which they say you can scroll through ... wouldn't it make more sense to be able to map it to buttons or an encoder so you don't have to go back to the mouse/keyboard to scroll up/down?  maybe you can but they just didn't show it.  Guess we'll wait and see

It's released today. Their server is being caned! Verrrrry slow download speeds! I know I said above I was gonna ditch it but I ended up getting a cheap Live Lite to Live 6 upgrade which included a free upgrade to Live 7 upon release so it worked out extremely cheap to get it. It's good for a lot of stuff and I think it will play very nicely with Logic.

looking very forward to the drum rack

still haven't used the drumrack, doubt i ever will haha boy i sure hit the nail on the head with that call. ahh i know it was because i didn't have my machinedrum (i have the 8th one made you know)

i have found myself pretty much exclusively using live 7 at the moment, mainly just to sequence my hardware and add a few effects and routing etc. there's nothing i really don't like about it, other than the only real thing that annoys me about ableton is arming and disarming midi and audio channels (with a mouse).

there's another update for 7 that has been released recently too iirc
