Yah sync assignment - tres funĀ  :D

tbh I was covering my back a little in that I see no reason why an ethernet cable couldn't send word clock if the two devices connecting each other supported an ethernet port devoted to s/pdif, aes/ebu or wc itself. I just don't know if any gear does it and I suspect not. If so it would be rare.

For the record, dedicated word clock signal is typically connected with BNC plugs and 75 ohm video cable.

Word clock can also be derived from s/pdif and aes/ebu signal, and doesn't require extra leads. This common in cheaper semi-pro equipment. It works just as well as dedicated w/c, as long the audio integrity itself is good and there are little to no sample errors in the transfer. The downside is if the audio transfer is dodgy, so is the clock signal potentially.
