OK so we've gotten to know each other and we're very much in love, but now my Ultralight is playing me this weird low-pitched, rhythmic buzzy sound interspersed with random digital pops and clicks. Also, the meters LEDs for all of my outputs jump around on the unit. This happens whenever anything with a sound engine (Live, Reaper, Media Player) starts playback and then fades off to nothing about 10 seconds after playback stops.
I *THINK* it might have just started happening after I installed Reaper, but I've uninstalled that and restarted and it keeps happening.
It's connected to the PC via Firewire and the only inputs in use is a stereo pair from my Machinedrum (switched off) and then I just have my monitors plugged into the main outs.
Is my MOTU trying to tell me to make mnml? Or is it something far more sinister?

if you cant get onto tech support before the weekend, i always had great responses from a guy called Dr.Fill on this site: http://www.unicornation.com
or PM me and i'll send you ehsan mobile ! LOL you can ring him at 7.30 tommorrow morning...he'd love that :
from your description it 'sorta' sounds like the same problem a few people have had, i had it for a while, i just kept trying to load the latest drivers and firmware and eventually it just staretd working how it should, i swear it was on ethe updates that did it, perhaps make sure you have the latest from the motu site
the thread i started can be found here: http://www.unicornat...7c7561dcbb4303c
may be different problem but i find dr.fill's explanations extremely helpful, alonmg with Dr.Ehsan's advice of course!

excerpt from that thread:
"There are 3 hotfixes from Microsoft that should be applied to any XP audio workstation. Firewire hotfix, dualcore CPU hotfix, and Memory Leak hotfix. None of these are automatic updates from MS, but you can search their technical database and fine them.
Firewire:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222
CPU:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256
I cant remember the # for the memory fix, I'll post it later."

That firewire fix sounds like what I need ...
sounds like you've got the same problem as i do at the moment ... This was also the same problem I had when I was using a yumcha VIA chipset 1394 card ...

Well, after reading the ground loop thread, I was worried it might be that (not knowing what that actually sounds like, I was making assumptions). So replugged the (newly rearranged and replugged) studio gear into one outlet, but problem persisted. This did however necessitate a bit of furniture and cable shuffling to achieve, and in putting everything back into place, the problem disappeared. I'm guessing it was a loose or squashed or twisted or temporarily retarded firewire cable. Anyway, another of my n00b issues fixes itself. I must be bound for great things! :cans: :cans: :cans:
Still can't get this fucking Keystation sorted out though... :bang:
(see the thread to be)
