The Nord Lead kickstarted the virtual analogue revolution way back in 1995 and has remained a firm favourite in studios worldwide. Clavia (clavia.se) have unveiled the prototype of the successor to the Nord Lead 3, and it’s not the Nord Lead 4.

The new model will be known as the Nord Wave and boasts the power to load in user samples into the oscillators. The waveforms can be saved in the onboard memory to design unique custom sounds and patches.

It also features dazzling filters and high quality effects, including tube-drive and super smooth parameter morphing. The synth is bi-timbral with two patch slots.

Pricing hasn’t yet been announced, but Nord Wave is expected to drop in September this year.

User samples, eh? That makes this thing killer. Bet it's got a few more tricks up its sleeve too.

But first thing's first, Cavia... where the hell's my ddrum5?  :P

the user samples feature should have been implemented into wavetable digital synths a long time ago imo

for mind i cant think of any technolgical reason why they couldnt have done it sooner...

E-Mu did. The E-series of the late 90's to where they died were the leaders at it - goons still praise the filters. Just before we were all over them - and the prices were exhorbitant. The technology (rom) is cheap and easy now. Samplers=Synths.

Hatmann did a similar thing with the neuron too - but I think that was more a resynthesis thing. Still - you loaded user waves.

If shipment of this thing is anything like the delivery of my bandmate's new Nord Stage, we should see it sometime by the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010.

September this year the yanks and Euros might get their hands on it, once their backorders are filled we might see a dozen units in Aus.

Place your backorders now!

Sorry to sound like an arse, but Clavia took over 6 months to deliver a pre-ordered Nord Stage 76 (and this has been in their catalogue for ages). Maybe they're too popular for their own good...

ps the synth looks great.

Who's at fault? Clavia or the backorder factory? I have my suspicions!

Hmmm I can't tattle now can I? :D

"Sorry mate, they had such a run on them worldwide that they didn't ship the full order and we had to supply shops with earlier backorders and yada yada yada"

In the end one throws one's arms up and goes "meh"

Anyway I'm off topic, might go start a retail horror stories thread  :bang: :) :bang:
