G'day guys,
I have been using Final Scratch 2.0 for ages and am selling it at the moment and looking at getting another scratch-proof interface.
The purpose of this thread is to gauge opinions on each of these products, and hopefully / ultimately a victor will emerge.
I have absolutely no experience with either of these, and as per usual there's no chance of me being able to have a look / play before I purchase.
Any of you guys have any experience with either of these products? Which way would you lean?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Cheers + have a good one,
-archie

ehsan: cheers ehsan (fun fact: i was for some odd reason thinking about you while standing in the middle of my lounge room the other day and the penny dropped as to your anagram-derived nick... a bit slow on the uptake sometimes...)
i did read that thread (and posted in it) before posting this thread. i take the other forum with lots of pinches of salt but here it's generally straight up. another problem i face is that most of the information is piped out of the marketing department and the people 'reviewing' are also endorsed by the same company they're reviewing a product for etc.
i guess if you're doing a group-buy for traktor it must mean that it's decent but on the flipside i guess it just means some people want it.
count me in if it trumps serato!
zac - ask anything you want mate! i get bored just letting records play and such and love mucking around and scratching and stuff and from my experience final scratch 2 isn't the optimum vehicle to be driving for turntabalism
i love the unit but can't justify buying another very similiar product and keeping the older one... if you don't scratch much or what-not it'd be great.

When Tracktor Scratch is as functional as Tracktor DJ studio is, which i have heard that there will be an update soon which will provide the full functionality, it will kick Serato's ass every which way come saturday. As it does at the moment IMO.
Mucked around with both of them last week and while serato is the popular choice and it is extremely good at what it does, IMO traktor scratch's system shits all over it. Its as stable and it comes with a high quality USB audio interface which is ASIO compatible(meaning you can use it for any other DAW also. Big pluses in my book) . plus with midi integration and all the nice other little bits that leaves me with the impression that it is a far more finished product than serato.
The only thing i wasn't terribly impressed by was the version of traktor is trimmed down somewhat on the DJ Studio version.
If these are the two in your sights, then NI gets my money over serato.

yeah i am about to make the big leap into laptop based performance so it was a rather usefull waste of time hanging aroundd the shop and taking to both these setups.
One to watch that really impresses is M-Audio's TORQ, not so good against the others for vinyl control, but really intuitive to use with a controller setup.

Whatevles Wuko.
You can get the Audio8DJ interface for 799 and Traktor for $349. Both retail prices. So that's 1148RRP for the full Traktor experience with vinyl control. Plus after discounting you're getting a gooooood deal.
Yes I have a vested interested in TS but as a punter, once you see it in action and compare it to SSL you realise that TS really is the next generation of the technology.

I have to agree with Ehsan there as well. I have used both and TS will kick Serato's ass in the very near future.

no worries mate anytime

ok i'm absolutely definitely going to get traktor scratch (cheers for your concern Luko but i reckon i'll go down that path). waiting for a bit of cash (some fucker wrote my car off a few weeks ago and still waiting for the payout - ironically he crashed into me while i was on my way home from go-karting ahah - crashed into me because he "forgot he had a trailer on the back" and pushed me into the car infront)
i want to have a live setup where i can have traktor scratch and a midi controller and a laptop primarily, but i was just wondering if i was going to do this is i would be wise to get traktor scratch AND an ultralite? I don't really like the idea of having to use a dedicated 'turntable' channel for the sound coming from midi keyboard tinkering. not really sure if this makes sense.
i'll try again... when i had final scratch 2 (and i'm pretty much assuming traktor interface is the same) channel 1 out was for 1 deck, channel 2 out for the other deck (only 2 outs). with the inputs 1 and 2 were for the timecoded stuff, and the 'Aux' input was fed the 'record out' on the mixer so i could record etc.
bugger-it i don't even really know how to explain it at all properly.
at the moment i'm working from my gimped-to-the-max soundcard and it's the worst thing ever.
ok so i have just been looking at the traktor scratch box and see that there are 4 channels in and out
fuck yeah that's fucking awesome!
so i CAN run both decks and have 2 extra ins and outs woo
wooooo
WOoooooOOOoooOOO!

I just know what its like to be in your position.
Especially when your keen as mustard to get cracking on things and the major hurdle is financial.
