So, master of Motu's... what do you know about linking one or more Ultralites into an 828MkII... then into Cubase? What i'm looking to do is expand my I/O at home... well... because i can :D I'm curious, though - if i get a couple of Ultralites, will they talk through the 828's ASIO drivers or vice versa? Will they show up on the same CueMix console and all that jazz?

I understand a couple of 828's combined or a couple of Ultralites will... but i'm curious if we can mix the families. I don't really need the cost of another 828 just if i wanted more I/O (which i seriously wouldn't use right now anyway!!!). But, i've got a feeling in the near future having a cheaper option to get some half decent analogue I/O would be useful.

Oh, and :eatadick: in advance :P

Let me start by climbing out your bedroom window and dusting myself off before you get home from work.

Right, now we've got that covered.

Bruz, you can mix and match units accross the MOTU family - up to 4 units in fact - and they will behave as one unit. They will share drivers and appear on the one Cuemix. So adding an Ultralite to your existing 828 system is a dream just waiting to happen. Like that one you had last night.

I love having a thread named after me. The Castlemaine Mail will front-page me as a local hero.

hey does anyone have a copy of the Ultralite Manual as Pdf that i could grab? i am looking at getting in on the group buy too but wanna do some prior reading to get me going. You know how things go once you have got the piece of equipment, the manual just tends to gather dust.

i tried the motu site but to no avail.

Hey mate,

Now just 'cause you asked for my personal assistance in that other thread... ;)

For more I/O, I've in the past considered going down the ADAT pre path, however, for the price of a decent 8 x Pre (RME/Presonus/Mackie even?) and reading what's capable in this thread, I think I'd be sticking MOTU and have the added advantage of full integration when everything's brought together, as well as a couple of completely independent systems should you ever need to provide quality audio interfaces for several PCs at once.

Yeah, MOTU are really doing some seriously good stuff at the moment.  ;)

Pfft. My question was - how do i get more I/O without spending more money? You've not even attempted to answer that ;D

Actually, this all came about because a friend (who uses this forum) is running a Mackie Onyx 1620. Nice desk, does MOST of what he wants... BUT, he's got some live gigs comming up where he wanted a few more in's... quite a few more. Then he was talking about having more outs (the Onyx 1620 only gives you 2!)... and i suggest dual souncards in cubase, and borrowing my 828MkII as a stop gap. All well and good, 'cept you need to use Asio4All to run the 2 different drivers into one in Cubase, and then you get heaps of latency.

So, back to the point... all of this got me thinking "Hey, can i actually daisy chain a couple of Ultralites off my 828". Eshan says yes... Jesters wallet says "wait for the next bonus cheque, bitch!" Next bonus cheque due next month... so maaaaybe i might try joining the group buy. It's not like i actually need another interface right at this moment... but boy it'd make my dick pictures... ooops... studio pictures... look even bigger :)

ORLY? ;)

Well, I could dish out the "it's not what ya got, but how ya use it?" line but when has that ever been fun?! ;D

So how many ultralites are you thinking of adding?

Now this live rig's got me interested. How would it be set up?

- Just a series of audio stems each running into their own desk channels for live mixing/EQ/effects?

- Or live soft-synths with into the desk tweaked in real-time via a controller?

- Something else altogether?

Tell me more. :)
