American Audio makes baby jesus cry

Who distributes American Audio? Always thought it was a Lightsounds 'home brand'. Cheaply made/sound/look/feel simply brought brought to Australia be Lightsounds to make a truckload of cash. Could be a coincidence that both arrived around the same time?

Oh, and I'd steer clear from it too. Perhaps it's better these days?

I'll just add to the "American Audio: Just Say NO!" campaign! I did an audtion type thing a couple of weeks ago and the DJ who was on before me brought his own gear (!!?) it was an American Audio mixer/CD player combo box.  It just died 3 times in 30 minutes, the music would just stop, all the lights came on on the CD players, lol!  He then proceeded to tell us all aobut this cool website for getting heaps underground stuff that hardly anyone has heard of, I think it was called BeatPort or something, heaps underground though (I feel since I'm new I should point out that I was being heavily sarcastic just then), so yeah, moral this time is that only idiots who think BeatPort and electro house are underground buy American Audio gear.  It was only 6 months old!

he said i should get an American Audio ( Q-D5B )

wow, just wow. i absolutely 100% CANNOT believe this. amazing. what a dirty, dirty, DIRTY salesman. ughh.

if you still haven't made your purchase, i would suggest getting 1 x cdj800 and 1 x cdj200 and a mixer. i personally feel it would be incredibly beneficial for you to start out with a cdj800.

mixer - i have a numark 5000fx and you can get these new for about $700 now i think (storedj.com.au) and i'm very happy with it etc.

you should also have a think about buying some stuff second-hand. for $2k you could get 2 second hand cdj800s and a decent mixer fo sho

edit: accidentally discovered what alt+s does

1). download live mixes by artists that spin genres you're interested in.

2). get a tracklisting.

3). listen out for songs that do that special something for you, find out what the track is. you know, those tracks that when you hear you sort-of 'buzz' / get excited

4). when you have the track name look for other tracks by that artist, or any remixes they have done. the remixes they have done are usually by people that play the same genre of music or what-not (obviously not always), so check out their tracks and remixes too.

5). tune in to one of the www.bbc1.co.uk/radio1 radio shows once a week (or any of the hundreds there are) to hear all the latest tunes and general chit-chat about electronic music etc

i suggest you play the music you like playing, it's just about how to actually discover said (or heard hehehehehe) music ;)
