Check the latest (in oz anyway) Sound On Sound - has a fantastic review of the KP3 - I've just integrated it into my studio (as an FX send), and i'll give it a run while dj'ing tommorow nite and let you guys know how it performs

Gotta love spur of the moment purchases too...

nup, still on Cubase - I only use Live as a 'looping sampler' while dj'ing

I ve been using ablton for about 5 months now and as far as midi goes i find with my efects i run ablton thru my DJM 800 being a dj i find it easier to run the effects from my mixer.

hey how'd the kp3 compare with the voyager?
when i use it with ableton (see still relevant to the thread ... kinda) i assign buttons to stop and start the midi clock with the kp3 editor (tip posted on kp3 forums here)

the fact that as soon as you turn the kp3 on it starts spitting out midi clock is a bit annoying and that live uses 0.01 precision on it's bpm and the kp3 0.1 (can't tap tempo on live) but I still love it  :-*

hangedy ongedy - how do hook the kp3 up?

DJ mixer master out -(audio)> KP3 -(midi)->Ableton on PC

where does the audio from the Kp3 route to?

And if you do it this way, doesn't that mean you can only use KP3 fx on the master out of the turnies? Not on the PC output?

Wot about if you wanted to vocode? you'd switch kp3 from line in to mic in, right? Does that mean you lose the midi syncing?

Hey Marky,
are you referring to sync'ing the kp3 midi clock up to ableton?
Basically hook it up to the mixer in anyway to get the reference tempo you want to sync to.
Send/Return is usually the best way to go. Then you can use it to process any of your inputs as well.

(But you could even just use the tap tempo on the kp3 to set the tempo without any audio signal going through it, and just use it as a midi controller.)

If you want to start/stop your ableton stuff with buttons on the kp3 then you do need to switch to the ext ctrl mode (Shift+8) which means you can't tweak while starting ableton but the hold key on the kp3 should keep the effect going. or use another midi controller to start/stop ableton.
And as long as auto bpm isn't on the midi tempo won't change when you switch inputs.

hope this helped.  give me some more info and what you're trying to do & I might be able to explain it a bit better ;)

MY GOD!!

I completely forgot I posted in here...

oooohkay - I've had the kp3 for quite some time now. My thoughts - I want to have it's babies.

But, there's a few issues - Could be mine only (coz i don't recall ever hearing this issue with any i've sold) but seems it's incredibly easy to overload the inputs and distort the output. I can't run the input past 'fuck-all' as it farts all over my audio.

For this reason I no longer tour with it (i can get away with it on smaller systems). I'm gunna send it back to 'link and see if it can be sorted.

Now, when I have a console big enough I like to run the following.

L --> R

DNS1000 (altho this usually ends up bein a bloody pioneer) ST-150 - 5ch mixer (thinkin of changing to a korg zero8 which may negate the need for the kp3) - KP3 - ST-150 - DNS1000 - Laptop

now, all cd, t/t and laptop run into the line ins on the desk - the kp3 is on the output (coz i'm usually jackin into another dj desk) with a midi lead running the clock to the laptop to sync abletron

if i really want to take up more space, i chuck the x-station in as controller and s'card for the lappie, otherwise its my trusty UA25 doin the interface duties

Now this is a freakin laaarge console so it's not often i get to run all of this...

I had issues with the kp3's clock output not re-setting the 1st beat when you restarted the internal bpm counter - someone over at itm gave me a fix that i'm yet to try. Want to get that distortion problem fixed first.

I found the Voyager easier to work with, and when i get off my arse and buy a serial for live6 i'll probably still use it. The Voyager tends to be scared of broken-beat stuff (which i tend to play a lot) so it has it's limits, but the i/o isn't as temperamental as the korg's. Still rca connections, but no distortion

Re-setting the clock is a synch (like that?) and theres a $150 upgrade to the v2 engine available which will make it easier still to work with.

So while the korg hasn't seen the lights of a club in quite some time, it still gets day to day use in the studio as an fx send.

Plus chicks love the flashy lights. They want to touch it, stroke it, make it dance...

yeah the kp3 is fine if you stay in the green but will distort in yellow or red.  Not the best level meter by any standards.  Haven't had the problem with the bpm clock.  Would be interested to see the tswdso post tho.

And the chicks do love it.  Amazing how easy it is to please them with just one finger  ::angry:

i run my kp2 over the master outs when i play live mainly as a 3 band isolater / filter + a resonant HPF and LPF .I also run my mini KP as a send in ableton  so i can flange and delay certain chanels with my finger pretty flexible and very low latency i was very surprised actually about 13 ms. on solo'd sounds you can hear the phasing but in the context in a mix, in a club you cant pick it up at all ...
