Nah, I had to clear half a wheelie bin of beer bottles and a coupla homeless crackwhore's who sleep on the floor outa the way before I could take that picky. I knocked up all that furniture myself cept for the comp desk and the chair, out of bits and peices. I still have a half finished rack I'm building in the garage.

Interfaces...I'm not sure yet, what you think? The more I can record simulanteously the better, and the less I have to spend the better too :)

As for soundcards, the Captain's fav of the month is this:

http://www.focusrite...ire_pro_26_i_o/

U can pick one of these bad boys up for under a grand.

I'm tossing up between one of those and an RME Fireface 800

'tis my $0.02

Update:
Here's my finished monitor set-up, now with featuring a couple of massive reconstituted limestone blocks, one placed under each speaker, elevating them to the necessary height, plus providing much needed stability (those IKEA cabinets look solid, however, thir chunky look is achieved by a sandwich of wafer-thin panels spaced apart with cardboard - or whatever it is inside it).

Working really well so far. So nice to have the speakers sitting ear level.

Those blocks, by the way, are just a measly AUD$8.39 each from Bunnings. So solid, I can barely shift them. Cheapest thing in the room too! How much are those Auralex MoPADs again? Note, both the monitors and limestone blocks have 3 to 4 self-adhesive felt circles attached to their bottom surfaces so as to not damage the finish and help iron out any irregularities in the blocks' surfaces.

Oh, and a ReMOTE SL dropped by to say "G,day!" ;)

;D Haha.. Well the good ol' Blonde was no match against the 100% isopropyl alcohol bottle, now with a nifty nasal spray applicator head, that assumed its place. Good for cleaning crusty oxide off machine heads before ripping old skool rave tapes too. ;)

I can't take a stock photo since the camera's looking straight at my mug from the top of the Imac, but here's one showing me and Chris my bass player mid Lychee-session (he's at the Mac).

- Imac
- Mackie MS1202 (in bottom of rack)
- Roland PC160 MIDI k/b (leaning up)
- Tannoy NFM8MkII speakers
- Altec Lansing Speakers (on desk)
- Tascam DA-30MkII (in rack)
- Ashly CL52E compressor (in rack)
- Yamaha A100 Amp (in rack)
- Firewire Solo (on desk)

No fancy keyboards, I'm a 100% softie these days. The percussion gear is semi-permanently in another studio and would take another pic and spec list anyway  :)

Also note the sonex (indian print covers a panel of it too) on the wall behind the speakers, the tissue-paper lamp in the corner, the desk 90 degrees from the speakers (some little acoustics tidbits - more around the room not shown), and the amethyst on the speaker - good viiibess maaann...  :cans: And - what? Are they real charts Robbie's reading? Old-skool...

Why you guys got no treatment behind your speakers? All those flat plasterboard walls and glass windows... eewww...

Pretty basic...

Posted Image

PC front and center (may possibly be a Mac soon) with an echo mia card. Was running logic5.5
M1 active monitors
Alesis qs8 keyboard/controller
VirusB rack (in a week or so)
Couple of guitars
Yamaha mg12/4 mixer
dt990 cans
rad gaming keyboard ::)
Indonesian statue
bongo
and a mini didg.

Oh and an EMPTY 3RU case... Its filling up, I promise!

As i said, Ill probably be putting a Mac up front. It will be running a cubase/saffire combo (or something of that elk). Most likely get a line6 pod too.

I'll go you one better - Suspended slap floor WITH baton floorboards (great for sound insulation, though :P )... and just to cap it off - ALL double brick walls with a sliding glass door behind the speakers. See - i'm HARD CORE into accoustic problems ;D

Fortunately, there were already some fairly heavy duty blinds when we moved in. These will be complimented in the near future with a thick 'theatre' style curtain. The rear wall (behind my chair) is one of my major headaches right now.. .and the solution is underway. I've got a mate building me some custome diffuser/absorbers. They are pyramid shaped 3mm ply, with regular 5mm holes drilled over them. They'll be sitting about 3-4cm off the wall and packed full of insulation. I've got to go over the room a bit better to hit the real problem frequencies... but there will be 4-5 of those across the back wall. In conjunction with that, i'm also going to install some 'floating' (hingeless) book shelves for storage and more diffusion amongst the irregularly spaced pyramids.

Side walls will be treated with 4 (2 per side) curved difussor/absorber panels. These will be about 30cm shy of ceiling and floor, and again made from 3mm ply with 5-6mm holes. I'm actually tossing up doing away with the diffusion side and going straight absorption by increasing the curved framework, and covering them with a thick cloth after backfilling with insulation. Again, They'll be spaced 3-4cm off the wall.

Bass is a bit of a problem - but mainly from behind the speakers. The lounge i have in the room is foam, and does a pretty good job dampening resonance down that end of the room.

The above treatments are being done for asthetics as much as effect - my missus has been good enough to let me steal the second biggest room in the house with balcony to set up the studio, the least i can do is ensure it looks nice :) The bitch wouldn't let me have the master bedroom, though. Damn women and thier mixed up priorities :P
