Hey parker - time to put some stickies in here, matey. You know, before the  :bang: starts from the same question being asked over and over... which makes you  :'( Perhaps you could delete this thread, start one with a similar name... sticky it, and then different people can start to add their opinions and ask questions. Would be good to do the same for CD players. Maybe you could also start a mixer one, but kick it off by explaining what some of the features will mean to the new DJ, and what they should be looking for... then people can discuss what they have and why they like/dislike it??? Crap, if you start a sound one, then i'm sure spectrum and i will chip in some contributions.

Ok then, lets review some of the facts.

For nearly 30 years the SL1200MkII Techincs Directdrive Turntable has been a consistent favorite for many DJ and scratch performance artists.

why? Well the fact that the design has not changed much over nearly 30 years should speak for itself. The fact that its design is the most often imitated speaks for itself. Infact other than recently just about all turntable manufacturers were producing turntables that imitated this venerable piece of DJ equipment.

What should this say to the "im looking for my first set of turntable's" n00b??

Basically, they still are the industry standard turntable.  They will do every thing that you want to do and do it well, and i would say that if you look after them they will more than likely outlive you. They can be had from as low as $400 each second hand for one that has been treated well. New i still think they can be had for around $850 fully loaded with carts if you treat the sales guy nicely.

MOre to follow...

i've got vestax pdx2000mkIIs...  i like the torque on them.  main reason i would want to switch to 1200s is just because they're club standard - beat matching is fine, but i find my scratching to suffer a little bit when i play out because i'm not used to them

Im a noobie to soundpunk, but not a noobie to djing. Been spinnin wax for about 11 years (not just in the bedroom, but in clubland too) and still love the way that the SL1200MkII Techincs Directdrive Turntables handle. They do have great torque as well as  being able to stop on a dime. Have tried others such as Vestax, stantons, numarks, Pioneer, Gemini and so on but they are less superior in my opinion.

Hello all, another noobie.  I wanna earn a little cash doing Vinyl to cd transfers. At the moment I got the El Cheapo 'Optimus LAB-1100' $129 from Dick Smith :-[, but I was thinking of shelling out for the Stanton T80.  The T80 has a S/PDIF digital output and a direct drive motor. Would I be assured of a quailty A/D convert or is it not worth it? :- Any other comment regarding Stanton? :cans:

Hmmm... I would be worried about the A/D on the stanton.

I reckon you would go a long way with a second hand technics or even the table you have if it's got quartz lock on it, a decent Stylus and a decent sound card to do the A/D in that rather than a nice gimmick stanton have whipped up to stay current with the new Digi mixers.

i record from my t-150 digitally if its a *hot* record.

Older choons and wax with more shallow grooves i run the line output (not phono) thru my DA-2496 pre-amps, just to get more gain

i can't pick any difference between them, and i can be a picky bastard when it comes to media transfers
