After my limited experience with MOTU devices, i can say that they are at the top of my list for a must have value for money interface. I need to get a firewire interface soon and the ultralite is at the top of my list followed shortly by the Edirol Fa101.

Yep, slick gear alright. If I didn't have my Digi002 boat anchor dongle, I'd be MOTU all the way. Kudos to them for riding out the years via some pretty schweet gear.

Yeah I love mine too just cause she's sexy. Having some issues connecting to my laptop (prob cause its yumcha brand). Anyway - will bitch proper once I've RTFM and downloaded new drivers. Hopefully that gets me out of current strife.

get a mac... ;D
I reckon you should be able to get it sorted. There haven't been too many complaints with them.
Definitely get the newest drivers you can and then see. Only issue maybe if the firewire port on your lappy isn't OHCI compliant.

^^ What he said ..
No doubt your yumcha lappy has a yumcha 1394 adapter ... Go and buy your self a PCMCIA Firewire card , but look for a Texas instruments chipset , or at least a OHCI compliant one ... as Jay mentioned

how many shares in motu do you currently own Cheyne
at the moment i've been eyeing these off too, my current soundcard is the finalscratch 2 scratch amp thingy which i've heard good things about but soon will need to expand the number of inputs etc. so it would appear the only thing i should be thinking of is this ultralite?

Bout time I upgraded the old *cough* SBLive! *cough* hey what kind of bird is that? *points and runs away* :-[
So yeah, with such great endorsements I think I've made up my mind
Is there anywhere cheaper than Nova Musik at $549USD?

Ultralite Q - If I link 2 Ultralites together, I know they act as one unit - how does this apply to MIDI? ie. do you get the same 16 channels going to both outputs or 32 channels (16 out of each) or some third option I haven't thought of?

Though someone with authority on the issue may need to correct me, I'm going to say...
They act as one BIG unit.
So just like you get twice the inputs/outputs, you get twice the MIDI (so yep, 32 channels).
EDIT: My crapola grammar/spelling. :-[
