Sick, did you get the MPG80 as well? I 'borrowed' Rusty's for a while (say 12 months, from the day he bought it - fuck he's a good sport) and it was like one of those times in my life I'll always hold dearest in memory. :sigh:

its a 5
and
no i didn't get the mpg 80

had a go at programming it last night, it wasn't so bad (i should mention that my first synth was a poly 800 so i don't mind not having a knob per parameter), you've just got to know what kind of sound you want before you begin

rusty is a generous fellow alright - he toild me you borrowed it the first day he got it - i don't think he would have let you have it if he'd played it for a while!

An http://www.ezydvd.com.au/ receipt hit the email for my upcoming Friday birthday....

Have been you-tubing clips all week. Probably the best tribute to the genius that there ever could be.

Can't wait... who cares about surprises, this is more exciting!

I don't have an MPG-80 either, but I've heard the sliders are too small to make fine adjustments. Is this true?

I programmed up my Kenton Control Freak and I use a SXPanel from

Naw, not true at all. They're fine. No worse than a knob, and better than a little knob like on a 303. Great solution tho!

big day yesterday:

Akai ASQ-10.
Roland MSQ-700.
Doepfer A110.

I'm really liking the MSQ-700 so far. Heaps of fun! I have been running it with my ESQ-1, and I like it much more than the ESQ-1 internal sequencer. I can see me using it a lot.

I need to get the ASQ-10 a little bit fixed up, then put it into the heart of my setup and give it a good workout sometime soon.

the doepfer vco module was cheap and local, so I just grabbed it... :-)

@echohex: Roland SH-2 is a truly awesome synth! very good choice.

My latest music purchase is a license for reaper. been playing about with it in the last month and a bit, and really getting to like it. Had reaper running along and beautifully driving my ASQ-10 from a spare audio interface output the other night - great fun.

I have a fair bit to learn still, but I see it totally replacing cubase for my needs. Reaper and Ableton live 6 looks like a really nice combination of features to me.

And reaper costs less than a tenth as much as cubase or ableton, as long as you earn less than US$20,000 from music a year (and if you do that, then it goes up in price and costs about a quarter to a third as much... :-)

Had this guitar recently land on my front doorstep all the way from Tokyo:

It's a 1990's Fernandes Super Grade Model. As you can see, it's almost an exact replica of a Gibson Les Paul Standard but at about 1/4 of the price. Made in Japan, this thing is in almost in mint condition. This axe is kind of rare as Fernandes are mostly known for making great Stratocaster copies but only occasionally made Gibson clones. Being a lefthanded model, would make it even more scarce.

This thing has a very FAT tone, perhaps a little bit on the dark side. Plugged into my guitar amp it overdrives just beautifully. Clean it sounds a just a bit too bassy and overdrives quickly but that can be overcome with a slight roll off of the volume knob. The Fernandes VH-1 pickups are Alnico 5 and lean to towards hot-moderate output.

Stays in tune very nicely and the intotation seems to be fine. A lil' bit uncomfortable to play sitting down and is a bit weighty. I'm still trying to get use to the Gibson 24.75" scale length, I personally prefer the Fender 25.5" scale in terms of playability.

Got this old 16mm film camera over a month ago:

It's a CP-16 made sometime in the 70s by Cinema Products Corporation based in Hollywood. They were intended to be used for location shooting before portable video tape cameras became readily available and more cost/time effective. They popular with local and national US television news agencies, and for drama and documentary productions.

My CP-16 is in very clean condition. Has a 12-120mm Angenieux zoom lens and prismatic viewfinder. Quite a beast of a thing. It came in a bulky flight case with two more 400" magazines, battery, recharger, and 100" of unused Kodak Vision 200T film. Even has an on-board mixer and crystal sync device for recording sound which is just about useless these days as the film with magnetic audio tape is no longer made.

I've charged up the battery and it still is working. Will have to do some testing and experimenting before hopefully making some short films or music videos sometime in the future.

Very nice find!

Who develops the film these days? Can it still be done in Oz?
