Cubase - macros tutorial

touched on this in another thread so i'll explain how to make your own macro's and save some time and improve your workflow ..as with most things in cubase you have to set it up to do what you want first .... macro's take a bit of time and thought but once set up properly are the biggest time saver .....

ok i'm going to give you and example. we have a vst i part i want to bounce down to audio ok first we want to:

select the track and the part we want to export the rest will be done by a macro ...

first you go to the file menu / key commands on the bottom of the new window is a button that says 'show macros' click it ..

now click create macro and give it a name i called mine 'bounce vst to audio'...

now this is where a bit of thought is necesary effectively you want to add commands as you would if you were doing it the long way into the macro ...

ok first we want to solo the selected track so at the top type solo and click search if the solo key command is selected in the window below then go to the macro window and hit the add command button ...

now we want to select the locators to selection command ..so do the same search for locators to selection and hit add command ..

now we want to export audio mixdown so we can export the selected part of the solo'd track .. search for export audio and hit add command now once the export is done and reimported into the sequence (in the export audio dialog you will name your exported file and also make sure the option to import to track and pool is ticked ) you want your original track muted so both tracks don't play at once so find the mute command and add it

if your satisfied and don't want to edit further you can substitute the mute command for the remove track command and it will delete the vst i track completely ....

now we are almost complete all we have to do is give the macro a key command and it's done so in the macro folder in the key command list, your bounce vst to audio should be there, just click in the type in command box what you want. i selected shift a as it's not assigned any where else (on osx anyway)and select assign . and bobs your uncle now this can be applied to any long winded process especially if you have to do several repeats it saves a hell of a lot of time...

keep in mind though that not every function has a command assigned to it so you will have to make one up for those .cubase will let you know if it is assigned to something else
